Social media is a way for libraries to encourage, promote, innovate, learn, adapt, improve customer service, market library services, and to discover and deliver what users want. With all these benefits it's no wonder that libraries of all types and sizes are exploring the social media landscape. This information packed session will provide practical advice, tools, tips, and tricks on easy ways to optimize your website for this new social environment. Find out how other libraries are using social media to promote libraries and engage with users. Are you ready for the social?
Who Should Attend?
Aimed primarily at staff who has some responsibility planning, managing, or creating online library content for web sites, blogs, course sites as well as library staff who are involved with communications, marketing, promotion and recruitment. Staff at any level of the library can utilize tool tips and tricks covered in this session to increase their library's social media profile.

Darlene Fichter is the Coordinator for Data Library Services at the University of Saskatchewan Library. Darlene is particularly interested in the area of human computer interaction and designing positive user experiences. She has been a consultant and project manager for several Web site, portal, digital library and intranet projects. Darlene is columnist for Online magazine and a frequent conference speaker on new and emerging information technologies.
Jeff Wisniewski received his MLS from the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences. He is the Web Services Librarian for the University Library System at the University of Pittsburgh, where he maintains the Library System's public Web site, staff intranet, coordinates technical support for Pitt.s University-wide ETD program, and project manages new technology initiatives.
He serves as a Visiting Lecturer in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, has taught numerous technology workshops, and is a frequent presenter at Web and Internet conferences. He has published in such journals as IRSQ, Online, CIL, and has authored a chapter in the recently released Haworth monograph Federated Search: Solution or Setback for Online Library Services.
