Description:
Most people are familiar with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube,
and how to find information in these tools. In this session, we'll steer
away from these relatively well-known social tools and look at some
unique and lesser-known tools and apps, and why you might want to use them for information and research. We'll also look at a few tools that may be familiar, but which you may not have thought about for business, industry, and competitive information. Some of the tools we'll look at include Meetup, Quora, Twubs, and Flickr and other image sharing sites. We'll wrap up by briefly talking about the rise of mobile apps, and also look at the state of emerging tools in the social space.
Critical Learning Questions:
- Which social tools (besides LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube) do I need to know about as a researcher?
- How can I use non-mainstream social tools to find business and competitive information?
- How can I more effectively find information in Twitter?
- What are the latest social tools?
Who Should Attend:
Information professionals, researchers, or other information-intensive professionals who conduct business, industry, career, company or competitive research. Information professionals who are interested in the latest social tools and apps are encouraged to attend, as well. This session is best for those already familiar with mainstream social tools Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube.
* Note: Participant registration limited to 100
