Webinar Series Description
SLA hosts wikis for chapters, divisions, and caucuses and for special association projects. The SLA wikis are available to SLA members and leaders for organizing information, collaborating on projects, and presenting information.

SLA and Click U are offering a series of four fast-paced online sessions to help you learn about and use SLA's wikis. The sessions, which will build upon each other, will include homework assignments, demonstrations, and opportunities to practice developing and extending wiki content. Presentation materials will be made available after each Webinar.

This training is offered in four parts:

1. Introduction to Wikis (Wikis 101)
2. Participating in Virtual Communities (Wikis 102)
3. Developing Your Site for Success (Wikis 201)
4. Playing in the Sandbox (Wikis 202)

Karen Huffman is senior applications and database administrator (for business-to-business solutions) for information systems and technology at the National Geographic Society. She is also an adjunct professor at Catholic University and chair-elect of SLA's Knowledge Management Division.

Karen is creative in her approach and passionate about her "tools" and the importance of "play."

It will define a wiki, explore wiki terminology, and present information on how to navigate and explore the dashboard, spaces and space features, breadcrumbs, and "my" personal space. Participating in Virtual Communities (Wikis 102)

This Webinar is the second in a series of four fast-paced online sessions that will help you learn about and use SLA's wikis. It will review and build upon the information presented in the previous session (Wikis 101). Featured topics include the following: navigation (dashboard, spaces, breadcrumbs, space features); creating content (pages, formatting, tables, adding links and images, wysiwyg editor vs. wiki markup language, templates, developing folksonomies with labels); additional space features; statistics/usage; and security.

Developing Your Site for Success (Wikis 201)

SLA hosts wikis for chapters, divisions, and caucuses and for special association projects. The wikis are available to SLA members and leaders for organizing information, collaborating on projects, and presenting information.

This presentation, the third in a series of four fast-paced online sessions, will build upon the information presented in the Wikis 101 and 102 sessions.  Featured topics will include the following: extending your wiki by creating your own templates; reformatting and organizing your wiki to include plug-ins such as the table of contents; RSS feeds; and page navigation. The session will also include a discussion on planning and organizing wikis as well as a review of a handful of SLA's wikis again to help determine the focus for your site. Participants will be encouraged to contribute learned outcomes from SLA's Wikis 102.

Who Should Attend: Those interested in a more in-depth look at SLA's wikis. Basic HTML experience and knowledge of site architecture concepts are essential.


Playing in the Sandbox (Wikis 202)

Join this last Webinar of the four-session series for a recap of information presented during the previous sessions.  Session information will be determined by polling participants who have participated in previous sessions. There will be opportunities for sharing created wikis.  Come play in the wiki sandbox!
