Scholarship Instructions and Application
We will be accepting applications for the 2008-09 Scholarship Program 1 January 2008 - 30 September 2008.
IntroductionThe Special Libraries Association (SLA) is pleased to provide the information below and applications for the SLA Scholarship Program. This program consists of awards for graduate study leading to a Master's Degree, graduate study leading to a Ph.D., and for post-M.L.S. study.

Application Instructions
Award: SLA Scholarship
The SLA Scholarship will be granted only for graduate study in librarianship leading to a master's degree at a recognized school of library or information science. Up to three $6,000 SLA scholarships are available each year. Scholarship winners are notified in December. The official announcement and the award presentations are made at the Association's Annual Conference in June.
Eligibility of Applicants
Applicants must be college graduates or college seniors with an interest in special librarianship. Extra consideration shall be given to members of the Special Libraries Association and to persons who have worked in and for special libraries, but the scholarships are not restricted to these persons. Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for and interest in special library work. Applicants must submit a statement of provisional acceptance by a recognized library school or information science program. Matriculated school applicants must submit an official transcript of his/her library school record to date. Applicants must submit evidence of financial need.
The Affirmative Action Scholarship will be granted only for graduate study in librarianship leading to a master's degree at a recognized school of library or information science. One $6,000 Affirmative Action Scholarship is available each year. Scholarship winners are notified in December. The official announcement and the presentation of the award will be made at the Association's Annual Conference in June.

Applicants must be citizens of the United States of America either by birth or naturalization or permanent resident aliens and a member of a minority group defined as Black (African American), Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander, American Indian, Aleutian(Alaskan) native or native Hawaiians. The applicant must indicate in a narrative statement how they meet these criteria. Award:
Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)
The ISI Scholarship will be granted only for beginning graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science or related fields of study. One $1,000 ISI scholarship is available each year. Scholarship winners are notified in December. The official announcement of the award is made at the Association's Annual Conference in June.
Eligibility of Applicants
Applicants must be members of the Special Libraries Association and have worked in a special library. Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for and interest in special library work, who show promise of accomplishment, and who are judged capable of making specific contributions to the library profession. Applicants must be beginning doctoral candidate enrolled in a course of study by the time the award is given. Because ISI awards medical librarianship scholarships through the Medical Library Association, persons planning careers in medical librarianship cannot be considered. Applicants must submit evidence of financial need.
Award: Plenum Scholarship
The Plenum Scholarship will be granted for graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science or related fields of study. One $1,000 Plenum scholarship is available each year. Scholarship winners are notified in December. The official announcement of the award is made at the Association's Annual Conference in June.
Eligibility of Applicants
Applicants must be members the Special Libraries Association and have worked in a special library. Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for and interest in special library work, who show promise of accomplishment, and who are judged capable of making specific contributions to the library profession. Applicants must be doctoral candidates who have dissertation topic approval and are enrolled in a course of study by the time the award is given. Applicants must submit evidence of high academic achievement, evidence of financial need and evidence of dissertation topic approval.

Mary Adeline Conner Professional Development Scholarship
The Mary Adeline Conner Professional Development Scholarship will be granted for post-M.L.S. certificate or degree programs in any subject area, technological skill, or managerial expertise relevant to applicant's career needs and goals in special librarianship. One or more scholarships, not to exceed $6,000 in total, are available each year. Scholar-ships may include a travel stipend. Scholarship winners are notified in December. The official announcement of the award is made at the Association's Annual Conference in June.
Eligibility of Applicants
Applicants must be members of the Special Libraries Association who have the M.L.S. degree and have worked in special libraries at least five years.
Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for special library work, who show promise of accomplishment, and who are judged capable of making specific contributions to the library profession. Applicants must be accepted into a certificate or degree program offered by an accredited college or university, or by a professional association or society. Preference will be given to study program proposals to be completed within two years from the date of the award. Applicants must submit evidence of financial need.
