SLA Members...

Five Steps to Success!
Recruiting a new SLA member can be easier than you think. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  1. Become familiar with all the benefits of SLA Membership
SLA membership puts a wealth of resources right at your fingertips. Invite your colleagues to join members like you in securing a successful future for Information Professionals.

  2. Find your friends and colleagues
Is there someone you haven't seen in a while? Maybe a former member has let their membership lapse. Contact him/her and let them know that you miss them and the contribution they made. You can remind them of the benefits they are missing since their membership has lapsed. Check the SLA membership directory for those who should be members.

  3. Share your SLA experience
One of the best ways to recruit a colleague is by telling them a story about one of the ways SLA membership has helped enhance your career. Whether it was an article you read recently in Information Outlook®, an idea you picked up at a chapter/division meeting or discussion list. Or perhaps a conversation about SLA 2011 or Click University.

  4. Provide the Official Recruit-a-Member Campaign Application
Go to the toolkit to find the template e-mail to send to everyone you want to introduce to SLA membership. There is a special Campaign Online Application; make sure they know to put your name in the "Referred By" area.

The template email includes a special campaign application. If you prefer to send your own email, just make sure to include the address for the campaign application, www.sla.org/recruit.

This online application includes a line for the recruit to include your name as the member who has referred them for membership.

  5. Follow up
Make sure the online application has been sent. Send a thank you note and let them know you appreciate their support for SLA.
