SLA Leadership Summit 2007 - Keynote Speaker

  Dr. Ken Haycock has been coordinator of 115 libraries and information centers for a large urban school district, CEO of a regional public library system with 45 branches, manager of three special libraries and on the review team for major research libraries and museums. He has also been a senior official on a $400m public organization. Politically, Ken has been a public library trustee, elected school board chair and municipal councilor.

He has also been senior partner of a successful consulting firm (www.kenhaycock.com) focusing on building capacity for leadership, collaboration and advocacy and president of several national and international professional associations. Dr. Haycock was professor and director of the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia and is currently director of the at San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science, the largest in the world, and a respected researcher and writer.

He was honored by Phi Delta Kappa as one of the leading young educators in North America and received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal for contributions to society. He has also received awards for outstanding contributions from several associations. Ken is currently an elected member of the council of the American Library Association and immediate past president of the Association for Library and Information Science Education.
