NOMINATION OF OFFICERS
In the selection of nominees for association offices, the Association Nominating Committee has priority over chapter, division or section nominating committees. However, the Association Nominating Committee usually starts its work before the chapter, division and section nominating committees; therefore, conflicts are rare. The Association slate of candidates is usually determined during the spring and presented to the Board of Directors at its Annual Conference meeting.
Duties of the Nominating Committee are outlined below:
- Nominate for elective office members of the Chapter. Members, Student Members and Retired Members may hold any elective chapter or section office.
- The nominees for president-elect should be aware that attendance at Chapter Cabinet meetings at the Association Winter Meeting and at the Annual Conference are part of the responsibilities of the elected candidate. An elected candidate should not simultaneously hold more than one office associated with membership in the Division and Chapter Cabinets.
- Obtain written acceptances and biographical information from nominees.
- In the case of a mail ballot, send the biographical information to the person whose duty it is to prepare and mail the ballots. (Consult your chapter, division or section bylaws or procedures manual.) Members, Student Members, and Retired Members all have the privilege of voting. Mailing labels for envelopes may be requested from the association office. Please request these at least six weeks in advance.
- Report results of the mail ballot at the chapter annual business meeting, or conduct your election at the annual business meeting.
