Some of you will be taking on new roles or passing on current responsibilities to a new leader. There are ways you can ease the transition and make the job as easy and rewarding as possible. In an ideal world, a face to face meeting of outgoing and incoming board and committee members is the very best way to ease the transition. If that's not possible, connect through other communications.
While the responsibilities may be outlined in your practices manual, spend some time thinking of what is not there. Have you learned valuable lessons along the way? What were the secrets of your success? Please share tips and lessons learned. Are there projects already in progress? If so, remember to give a status report. Pass along relevant files. Have you identified some rising stars to suggest who might be ready for an appointed position?
Some units have created a Community of Practice so that all relevant files, calendar, discussions, web links, etc., can be consolidated and passed along. Does this work for you? Should you look into creating a CoP?
I hope that you will find ways to use tools, training and reference materials in the Leadership Center, have a fun term and let your leadership team and me know how we can assist you. SLA is strong because of you and the nearly 2,000 leaders each year who contribute their time, effort and resources to give back to their profession. Thank you on behalf of the staff who work in partnership with you.

SLA 2006 Conference Blog Now Online
If you were paying attention to last year's conference activities in Toronto online, you no doubt saw the SLA Web log that shared news, event information, and participant feedback. The excellent response to that blog yielded the second edition for this year's conference in Baltimore, at www.sla.org/2006conferenceblog. Thanks to Elsevier for supporting this year's blog!
Chapter Presidential Visits
Would you like the SLA president or president-elect to visit your chapter? Send an invitation by completing the request form. The large number of chapters makes it necessary to consider time, distance and SLA budgetary limitations. Please remember that these requests will be for the period through December 2007. For more information, see the SLA Chapter Visit Request Form. Please return to Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect Anne Caputo by 30 June.
SLA 2006-07 Officer Forms
In order to facilitate communication with chapter and division officers, we need to update our database and Web site with the newly elected 2006-2007 officers and committee chairs. SLA is completing its transition to the new association governance year; therefore, all chapter and division officer terms should expire in December 2006 or 2007. To ensure the accuracy of our records, please complete the form, even if your current officers are continuing.
Presidents-elect and chairs-elect are responsible for completing the form. Complete the form listing the appropriate member name for each office and forward the form to Natalie Gozzard (ngozzard@sla.org) by 30 June.
NOTE: In the interest of simplification, units may choose to fill only selected positions which meet the needs of their members. The only required positions to be filled are those outlined in your governing document/unit practices.
SLA's Leadership Department collects this information primarily for communicating with the leaders common in most units. Expanding the title listing would increase the officer codes to 188 with the vast majority of the additional codes having only one position with that particular title, e.g., webmaster would expand to Web manager, Web administrator, Web editor, Web development chair, Web page committee member, Web communications team member, technology, Web, Internet, Internet committee chair, Web site administrator, Web mistress. Please continue to use the unique leadership titles within your unit in publications and your Web site.
Caucus conveners: please advise Leadership Associate Natalie Gozzard if there are any changes in convener, discussion list owner, or webmaster. Otherwise, we will assume no change.

Placing Standing Orders for Labels or Reports
Many units place standing orders for labels, e-mail distributions or reports. This is just a reminder that all standing orders expire in June 2006 and a new order should be placed. The Unit Label, Roster, and VIP Report Request Form is available on the web. Please alert your bulletin editors, program planner, list owner, or others who may utilize this service.
There are a variety of reports available to meet your communications needs. For instance, if your practice is to e-mail your bulletin and you want to mail to those who don?t use e-mail, we can provide a combination of e-mail addresses and labels for those who do not have e-mail.
Bulletins are distributed to a larger group than just your members; by practice, the SLA Board and selected HQ staff are included and you have the option to include other chapter presidents and division chairs.
? Unlike the membership directory, this service will provide the members? designated preferred mailing address.
