Information Management Benchmark 2007
Information Management Benchmark 2007

The Executive Summary of Outsell's Briefing "Information Management Benchmark: 2007 State of the Function" is now available for SLA members only.

Since 2000, Outsell has conducted annual benchmarking surveys of information management (IM) functions to gather baseline data on resourcing, service offerings, and operational matters. The data from this study adds to Outsell's existing knowledge base of operational key metrics and drivers for IM functions in corporate (including nonprofit), government, education, and healthcare sectors. IM managers depend on information from benchmarking studies to help make informed decisions on their operations, services, and plans. Many IM managers are waging the same battles as their colleagues in their organizations; a peek into their peer's worlds can help them reflect on their own strategies and progress based on the data and trends they observe.

This briefing presents the highlights of Outsell's 2007 study.  Key study findings are:

  • The number of individuals moving into non-traditional roles is increasing.
  • Budget increases of 5.4% expected for 2008.
  • Percentage of digital content spending continues to increase.
  • Slight FTE increase expected but contractor numbers remain flat.
  • The number of content vendors used by IM functions is expected to increase slightly.
  • Client inquiry and external electronic content are identified as most valuable services.
