Library and Information Studies Programs Survey
Library and Information Studies Programs Survey
A priority in the SLA strategic plan deals with developing professional competencies and skills of members. One project which addresses this goal is the Library and Information Studies Programs Survey. In response to SLA's Competencies for Special Librarians of the 21st Century and MLA's educational policy statement, Platform for Change, SLA, ALISE (The Association for Library and Information Science Education), and MLA (The Medical Library Association) surveyed Library and Information Science programs throughout the world to identify offered courses that relate to the development of knowledge, understanding, and skills of special librarians and information professionals. The aims of the survey were to provide a benchmark of information studies curricula and to identify competency areas better served by continuing education programs offered through professional associations. The findings are available on the SLA website at Library and information studies programs survey or by contacting Carolyn Sosnowski, 1-703-647-4914, or resources@sla.org.
