How many of us have had to undergo painful team building exercises or poorly executed attempts to bring staff together to build a team? Occasionally, you may have even wondered what was the purpose of a particular team building activity other than to make staff feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. But while team building exercises often get a bad rap, the activity of building and developing teams is integrally linked to success in managing an information center. Team building promotes staff retention, quality decision making, team member development and better quality management. Team building is more than the occasional team building activity; it is something that must be actively developed and worked on, regularly.
