SLA has joined forces with a coalition of legal scholars, authors, publishers and technology companies to help inform policy makers and the public about the serious legal, competitive and policy issues raised by the proposed Google book settlement.
The Open Book Alliance, whose other members include Amazon, Microsoft, the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses, and Yahoo!, is one of many groups questioning whether the settlement will promote the interests of consumers or serve to restrict access and raise prices.
