No Change at LSU

As dean of the School of Library & Information Science (SLIS) at LSU, I was surprised to read your item in the July/August issue of Information Outlook announcing that SLIS would merge with the schools of education and social work, because no such change has taken place.

For the last six months, there has been discussion at LSU about reorganization of more than a dozen academic departments, but no changes have been approved. The campus-wide proposal involved moving the Department of Mathematics from the College of Arts & Sciences to the College of Basic Sciences, moving the Department of Economics from the College of Business to the College of Arts & Sciences, moving the Department of Experimental Statistics from the College of Agriculture to the College of Arts & Sciences, as well as forming a new college which may be structured as you described or could involve more or fewer departments. NONE of these changes has been implemented.
