Doris Kearns Goodwin faced controversy at a fairly young age. Just out of graduate school, Goodwin was with Lyndon Johnson as he faced a firestorm for escalating the conflict in Vietnam. Eventually, this firestorm forced Johnson to withdraw from the 1968 presidential race. Little did Goodwin know at the time that she would be facing her own controversy one day.
