SLA Annual Conference to Revisit Philadelphia in 2016

We are pleased to announce that we have reserved the Philadelphia Convention Center for 12-15 June for the SLA 2016 Annual philadelphia-visitorsConference & INFO-EXPO.

This east coast, centrally located city is unrivaled for a convention of our size and scope. It is large enough to house our thousands of information professionals and exhibitors, the two hundred-plus sessions and events that we offer, but not so big that it swallows us up. Hotels, dining, and the convention center are all conveniently and centrally located, meaning shuttle buses and cabs won’t be necessary for most of the SLA hotels. Couple that with hotel rates which are lower than other popular destinations such as Washington, D.C. and New York, and we have a destination that is right for us.

2015 and 2016 will represent absolutely critical years for the association and our members. By returning to the east coast of North America for two consecutive years, we are giving the largest majority of our members and vendor partners every opportunity to send a full, robust representation to the conference.

In 2011, the local Philadelphia Chapter members did a magnificent job hosting our thousands of members from 30-plus countries at the Annual Conference. They were a group we depended on to provide pertinent hospitality information and travel tips, and we are thankful that such a capable resource is up to the task once again.

This is a great opportunity to return to the City of Brotherly love, and join together around learning, networking, and fun in a location that has proven to be right for our community.

More information will be made available as plans take greater shape.

We hope to see you at SLA 2014 in Vancouver, in Boston in 2015, and now we say with much excitement, back in Philadelphia in 2016!

While looking for the exact dates of next year’s conference in Boston, I discovered this. Even though 2016 is almost two years away, I’d like to welcome everyone back here for another enjoyable and informative conference! Bring your energy, curiosity and enthusiasm, as well as comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and raingear, because you never know what the weather here will be like in June. And bring your appetites and taste buds. There are lots of good places to eat here. My Center City favorites are the City Tavern (which is actually in Old City and where the lunch menu is virtually identical to the dinner menu but a lot less expensive) and, in Chinatown, the Vietnam Restaurant, Charles Plaza (Chinese and vegetarian) and Ray’s Cafe and Tea House.
