SLA 2021: Call for Conference Posters

The SLA 2021 Call for Posters is now open! Specialized librarians and information professionals are invited to submit an abstract for a poster session, to be held during the SLA 2021 Annual Conference in August.

The deadline to submit a poster abstract is Tuesday, June 1, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Both SLA members and non-members are invited to submit abstracts. Submissions are welcome on any topic relevant to special librarianship and the practice of managing, organizing, storing, and sharing information. Accepted poster presenters will receive a discounted registration rate of $149 for the conference.

Writing a Poster Abstract

Abstracts should include the objective or research question, if applicable. Posters may be research based, or feature case studies, best practices, and more! The description must be substantial enough to provide the review committee with sufficient information to determine what your poster is about.

The abstract should contain approximately 200-250 words and do the following—

  • Explain why your work is important, set the context and pre-empt the question, “So what?”
  • Describe the objective(s) of your work and what you are adding to current knowledge.
  • Briefly explain your methods (but unless your research is about methods, this should not be a major focus of your abstract or poster).
  • Succinctly state the results, conclusions, and recommendations.

The review and selection process will be managed by SLA member review committees organized by topic area. Applicants will be notified of their application status in mid-June.

Formulating a Poster Topic
Posters presented at previous SLA Annual Conferences have addressed a wide range of topics related to special librarianship and information management, including the following:

  • What skills do librarians need to learn to effectively turn information into intelligence and help their organizations anticipate and benefit from change?
  • How can librarians better differentiate their services from those provided by Google and other web-based service providers?
  • Does membership in a professional association have a measurable impact on a librarian’s career?
  • How can librarians contribute to the success of process improvement initiatives within organizations?
