Hone Your Leadership Skills through Board Service

Are you a forward-thinking individual and good communicator with experience in SLA, or do you know someone who fits this description? If so, the SLA Nominating Committee is looking for you and your colleagues!

Service on the SLA Board of Directors is an opportunity for members to take their leadership skills to the next level. Nominate yourself or a colleague to serve in one of the following leadership positions:

  • President-elect;
  • Chapter Cabinet Chair-elect;
  • Division Cabinet Chair-elect; or
  • Director (2 positions).

The Nominating Committee is seeking 10 candidates—two for each position (a total of four for the two director positions)—to stand for election in September 2016 and begin serving in January 2017.

Nominations must be received by 15 October 2015. Details about the responsibilities of each position can be found here.

Being a candidate and then a board member is an important responsibility as well as a great opportunity to give back to your association while also gaining valuable skills. And it will offer you an opportunity to have a major impact on SLA’s future—our association is facing serious challenges, and strategic changes are necessary.

Please nominate yourself or your colleagues who are able and willing to serve as members of the SLA Board. To nominate an SLA member for the board, forward the following information to any member of the Nominating Committee listed below:

  • The nominee’s name, e-mail address, physical address, and phone number;
  • The board position for which you are recommending the nominee; and
  • A few paragraphs about why you think this person would be an outstanding candidate and board member.

The members of the SLA Nominating Committee are as follows:
