Monday’s Conference Highlights

Welcome to Day 2 of SLA 2014.

What’s on tap today?

Spotlight Sessions on what to do after your digitization project (8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.), data mining (10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), taxonomies as a solution for information overload (12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.), and state government information and copyright (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.).  All Spotlight Series sessions take place in Convention Center West (CCW), Ballroom AB.

Monday Quick Takes:  networking, analytical tools, online mapping tools, and technology tools for instruction.  Quick Takes begin at 9:00 a.m.  CCW, outside of Ballroom A.

Meet Wei Wei, author of Tracing Our Footsteps: Fifteen Tales of Hope, Struggle, and Triumph, for her book signing at 2:00 p.m.  Heather Hedden will be signing copies of The Accidental Taxonomist at 3:00 p.m.  Copies of both books will be available for purchase.  CCW, Social Media Lounge.

Enjoy non-conflict time networking with colleagues and meeting with exhibitors in the INFO-EXPO.  Refreshments will be served.  2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., CCW, INFO-EXPO.

Are you interested in learning more about how SLA works, or are you thinking about becoming more involved in your chapter or division or at the headquarters level?  Then make plans to attend the Mid-Year Leadership Tune-Up, where presenters will talk about leadership tools, then host a speed-dating session for information exchange.  4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Marriott Pinnacle, Pinnacle Ballrooms I & II.

Chapter, division and caucus leaders will meet to discuss business at the chapter, division, and joint cabinet meetings.  All are welcome.  Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.  Marriott Pinnacle, Pinnacle Ballrooms I, II & III.

Network, network, network!

Any large business structure consists of several units, and local teams are formed in each department who are competing with each other. Spy app can play a key role in this struggle.
