Sunday at SLA 2015

Welcome to Boston! Below you’ll find some highlights of Day One of SLA 2015. Don’t forget: the online planner lists all of the conference sessions and events.  You can also download the conference schedule app by searching “SLA 2015” on your mobile device.  Select the app that says “SLA 2015 / SCHED.”

The Opening General Session and Awards Presentation kicks off the conference. Celebrate this year’s honorees, then hear from featured speaker Leigh Gallagher, assistant managing editor at Fortune. (9:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., CC Ballroom)

Don’t miss the INFO-EXPO Grand Opening at 11:15 a.m. SLA 2015 exhibitors are excited to speak with you about their products and services. Be sure to leave time in your conference schedule to visit the hall. We also hope to see you for the INFO-EXPO opening reception at 5:00 p.m. (CC Lower Level)

Want to be at the top of your game? Attend the new Master Class sessions, which are aimed at experienced info pros and those wanting to get an advanced-level look at a timely topic. Today’s Master Class sessions are on revolutionary learning organizations (11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.), mastering the art of user experience (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.), and information risk management (3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.). (CC Ballroom)

Also new for 2015: Crescendo sessions, which look at a topic from beginner to advanced…one-stop intense learning! Learn about Islamic banking (11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., CC 204B), developing a CI function (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., CC 253AB), and patent research and inventions (3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., CC 206B).

Back by popular demand are Quick Takes sessions. Take just 15 minutes to learn something new! Sunday Quick Takes sessions cover sustainability accounting standards, rush research requests, federal public access policies, legal research using Twitter, and researching private companies(5 sessions starting at noon, INFO-EXPO Exhibitor Theater)

Make time for a Hot Topic session.  In A Conversation with the New York Times’ R&D Lab: How Semantic Listening Can Build a Future from the Past (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.), learn about the convergence of archives, crowdsourcing and data.  Sponsored by the New York Times.  Understanding the World of Private Company Information, sponsored by Bureau van Dijk, explores bringing together useful data on companies (3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.).  All Hot Topic sessions take place in CC 253C.
